Leaders of the Quad countries gathered for their sixth summit to enhance collaboration on security, health,
\nand education initiatives.
\nThe meeting also aimed to tackle regional challenges, including maritime aggression in the IndoPacific and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
\nThey announced various projects aimed at strengthening mutual support and cooperation.<\/p>\n

What is Quad?<\/strong>
\no The grouping of four democracies \u2013India, Australia, US and Japan\u2013 is known as the quadrilateral
\nsecurity dialogue or quad.
\no The aim of this grouping is to ensure a free and open international order based on the rule of
\nlaw in the Indo- Pacific.
\nObjectives: The group\u2019s primary objectives include
\no maritime security,
\n\"\u25aa\" combating the Covid-19 crisis, especially vis-\u00e0-vis vaccine diplomacy,
\n\"\u25aa\" addressing the risks of climate change,
\n\"\u25aa\" creating an ecosystem for investment in the region and
\n\"\u25aa\" boosting technological innovation.<\/p>\n

Initiatives from the Quad Summit<\/strong><\/p>\n

New Coast Guard Exercise:<\/strong> The launch of the Quad-at-Sea Ship Observer Mission in 2025 aims to
\nenhance interoperability and maritime safety among member nations.
\nMaritime Initiative for Training in the Indo-Pacific (MAITRI):<\/strong> A training program to assist Quad
\npartners in monitoring and securing their waters, with India set to host the inaugural workshop in
\n2025.
\nLogistics Network Pilot Project:<\/strong> Quad countries will share airlift capacity to bolster disaster
\nresponse efforts.
\nCervical Cancer Combat:<\/strong> The \u2018Quad Cancer Moonshot\u2019 initiative will involve a $10 million
\ncommitment from India for cervical cancer screening, with Serum Institute of India and Gavi
\nproviding up to 40 million vaccines for the region.
\nMaritime Legal Dialogue:<\/strong> A dialogue has been initiated to support actions aimed at upholding the
\nrules-based order in maritime issues.
\nCondemnation of Maritime Aggression:<\/strong> The Quad leaders expressed strong concerns over
\nmaritime aggression in the East and South China Seas, highlighting issues of militarization and
\nintimidation.
\nUkraine and Gaza Conflicts:<\/strong> The declaration touched on the global impact of the Ukraine war,
\nparticularly on food and energy security, and called for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza.
\nQuad Fellowship Expansion:<\/strong> The fellowship for STEM education has been expanded to include 50
\nscholarships worth $500,000 for students from the region to pursue studies in government-funded
\ntechnical institutions in India.<\/p>\n

Significance of Quad for India<\/strong>
\nCountering China\u2019s economic and military rise
\no As a member of the Quad, in the event of rise in the Chinese hostilities on its borders, India can
\ntake the support of the other Quad nations to counter it.
\no In addition, India can even take the help of its naval front and conduct strategic explorations in
\nthe Indo-Pacific region.
\nFor a free and open Indo-Pacific
\no The summit vowed to strive for an Indo-Pacific region, that is free, open, inclusive, and
\nunconstrained by coercion.
\no This aspect becomes important for India, in the wake of China\u2019s aggressiveness and coercive
\nnature in the strategic Indo-Pacific region.
\nIndia as a Net Security provider
\no For India to assert this role as a Region, its dominance in the Indian Ocean Region needs to be
\nmaintained and sustained.
\no In this perspective, QUAD provides India a platform to enhance security through partnership in
\nthe region.
\nMultipolar World
\no India has supported a rule based multipolar world and QUAD can help it in achieving its
\nambition of becoming a regional superpower.<\/p>\n

Post COVID Diplomacy<\/strong>
\no There have been disruptions of supply chain across the world due to the Pandemic, and this
\nmight result in an over dependence on China for Global Value chains.
\no Under such a situation, India should use it diplomacy with QUAD group to establish a base for its
